Talented Bournemouth – Love By Design
Bournemouth is filled with talented entrepreneurs, artists and musicians, honestly, there’s loads of them! Once a month Lotus Photography dedicates a blog to highlight one of these amazing people.
Who else spends a lot of time on Pinterest? And who else has thought they could do that but then had an epic fail? Wedding Stylist, Love by Design Weddings and Events, is to me a real-life Pinterest. Run by Rachel, she creates beautiful, stylish events that are not only gorgeous but truly unique (and totally pin-able).
So this month I thought we should find out exactly how she became so stylish.
What do you do?
I am the owner of Love By Design Weddings and Events, which is a venue decorating company. We help couples to fulfil their dreams of a beautifully styled wedding venue, by using there own decorations, or our hired decorations, or a mix of the two. We also decorate for parties and corporate events.
How did you get started?
It was a combination of 2 things – my own wedding day and being unhappy in my job. I designed and created all the decor for my own wedding day in October 2016, and loved every minute of sourcing items, making things and seeing the finished venue! Afterwards, I felt like a huge part of my life was missing. My friends and family all told me that I should be using my creativity and how beautiful my wedding styling was, so I started to consider how this might be possible. The final push was being desperately unhappy in my 9 to 5 job and telling myself I couldn’t cope with that until retirement age. We moved house and were able to take on a lodger, which was the push I needed to quit the job and launch Love By Design!
What inspires you?
Everything and anything – I can see a painting and think “wow those colours would look great at a wedding” or I can be shopping and see some decor and it sets the creative cogs whirring in my brain! However, I never look at Pinterest, or copy other ideas completely, as I believe every wedding day should be unique, and so I try to put my creative spin on every wedding I style.
What’s been the most unique wedding you’ve styled?
A tropical themed wedding with flamingos, a tiki bar, bright colourful ribbons, mango leaf place names and inflatable monkeys!
What do you think 2019 biggest styling trend is going to be?
I am still mainly asked to create rustic weddings, but I am encouraging couples to add in some “non rustic” twists, such as decor in copper and grey, which are so popular this year!
What is the one item in your styling bag you can’t live without?
Where can we see your designs?
How has photography impacted/influenced your business?
Being able to be involved in styled photo shoots gives me a chance to show the world something different and get my work shown not just on social media pages, but in blogs and in magazines too. Also, wedding photography has helped me to get some of my real weddings published in magazines, and I have secured bookings as a result.
What’s your motto in life?
Everything happens for a reason.
